It’s about the food- but it’s not. We focus so much on food in recovery and in our disorders. And on weight restoration or weight loss. Really, food is what we have projected emotions into in order to deal with them in a “safe” way. When we are caught in the thought cycles of food and body, no matter how convincing they seem, we can never get to the root of the problem- to core beliefs, to dynamics within our lives and relationships, or to any of the internal problems and hardships we suppress through our eating disorders.
It’s about the food, but it’s not. Yes, we have eating disorders. But in order to make space emotionally for one to be able to eat, there must me room made. This happens through healing. This happens through processing unresolved conflicts, pain, and stresses in our lives. Once we begin to dig deeper into the root of the problem, we see that there’s so much more to an eating disorder than the food.

Bit of anxiety today as had to rely on my ex husband for help to get to the vets.He was very tense and swearing on arrival and it took me back a bit to the abuse I suffered with him.I don’t like to have to rely on him but believe it or not I have no one else to ask.I was brave and said little and eventually he calmed down.And the main thing is im ok,grounded myself and the cat is ok too. #abuse#mentalhealth#selfcare#anxiety

Cupping the ancient art of applying glass cups to the body by removing O2 with a burning torch ( not as dramatic as I described but I did have to watch the chemically treated hair ). Used here to stimulate the immune system and strengthen the Lung Qi and restore health. In this case to ensure that teenager gets to go out on her Saturday night (against my better judgement ). 🌱🌙 Living that yin life 🌚🌾 The feminine aspects of yoga have really called strongly to me over the past year as I have been exploring themes like REST, ALLOWING, OBSERVING WITH COMPASSIONATE CURIOSITY, and RELEASING TO DEEPEN.
Yin yoga is a Taoist style defined by slow movement and holding postures for 1-5 minutes without muscular effort. Postures are often supported by props. This is meant to gently apply moderate stress on the tendons, fascia and ligaments to increase flexibility and improve circulation. It’s a powerful tool for cultivating an inner awareness of silence and stillness. That being said, it’s profoundly meditative and I often experience strong insights within practice.
I’ve had more and more opportunities to explore the slow principles of gentler yoga styles, learning to teach chair yoga, restorative and yin in the past year. Ive always been more attracted to fiery vinyasa yoga so this has been a pretty big energetic shift for me.
Slower, cooler styles have been essential in restoring my highly sensitive self during stress. I find now that I apply those yin principles to so much of my life — patience, gentleness, self-compassion, slowness, inner-stillness. They’ve helped me to be kinder to myself, and choose Heart-paths from a place of conscious love.
Of course, “yang” or masculine yoga practice that requires muscular effort and builds heat / strength is also incredibly important. But in a way I feel that yin practice is a rebellion against our masculine-energy-dominated society. American Yoga is increasingly popularized as a fitness routine. And hey, whatever gets you practicing is great. The Yoga will take you on a journey no matter how you start. But as a teacher & practitioner, I’ve gotta say it’s incredibly satisfying to do deep work with my students (working at a gym no less!) with a cool, femme, body-opening, psychic-trauma-releasing, silent, chill-as-hell class.

can you say snow day brunch? ☃️ the snow is falling and i am oh so cozy in my apartment with the perfect mood set, so ready to enjoy this! i will admit, snow or no snow, i’ve been making this all week — it’s my current favorite and i enjoy it oh so much 💯 so damn good.
bacon, egg, cheese, on a toasted plain bagel. currently baking more bacon in the oven to have on hand for these babies.
plus my homemade green juice! 🌱 so excited to share this staple, because it’s so easy, hydrating, nutrient dense, and a great way to start off your day. i also just love the taste, especially when i’m getting bored of water. sometimes i drink this earlier with my coffee, and sometimes with breakfast. either way, i freaking love it! here’s how: in a blender mix a superfood greens blend of your choice (think: spirulina, wheatgrass, moringa, other fruit/vegetable mixes, herbs & antioxidants blend) + @amyandbriancoconutwater coconut water 💧 blend, pour into a glass mason jar over ice, and sip! i love using coconut water as my base, because of it’s amazing benefits + taste. the only ingredients in @amyandbriancoconutwater is coconut water, how it should be! no added sugars (coconut has its own natural sugar) and no preservatives. this stuff is the real deal and makes me 🤸🏼♂️🤸🏼♂️🤸🏼♂️ every morning. check it + make this! okay now back to being cozy AF i go ✌🏼😎 ps - there is always more to the story on my story + my blog, linked in bio! #AsIAwaken#sponsored
