Railway workers accidentally discovered these hot springs while building the railway across Canada. The government of Canada decided to preserve this area so that the pristine beauty would not be ruined by corporate interests.
Banff National Park was created! And then the surrounding areas (Jasper, Yoho, Kootenay National Parks) gradually became added to create the Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This was a great walk to the Kinsol Trestle! Highly recommended if you are in the area.
