Good morning .
Light glistening on the wave
Oceans rivers lakes
Transparent green blue
Watch the hew
On the move
hide and seek .
Behind the clouds upon the wave
Crystal clear water
childish splashings in the lake
warm spring bubbling from below
purple mountains in sight
3 gardens never fail
In my wake
I leave a trail
Others follow and delight in the ever changing light .
It may surprise you to learn that in the deserts of Israel, one of the things people rely on for life is something most of us rarely even think about—dew.
You see, it doesn’t rain much in the desert, but moisture in the air from the Mediterranean means that dew can be quite heavy in early summer. And to the people of Israel, dew is a form of “mayim chayim”—living water—sent by God to bring life. To believers in the time of the Bible, living water was any naturally occurring water—rain and a flowing river are forms of living water that are obvious—but dew was considered living water also. For desert people who were dependent on dew to water their crops so they could survive, this overnight condensation quickly became a symbol of God’s mercy and care toward them on a daily basis.
What I love about this is that dew is less obvious than rain. Rabbi Ruth Gias says; “To be aware of the dew is to become alert to all of the hidden goodness of God that we so often take for granted.” God’s mercy may not always be obvious to us every day ... but like dew in Israel during summer, it’s always constant. Whether we notice it or not, God is always blessing us wth grace and mercy. Amen?
Do you need a reminder of God’s mercy today? Do you need to be made aware of His blessings in your life? Comment with DEW, and we will all pray that you will be reminded of all the small ways God will show mercy and kindness towards you today.
