DIY Cat room! Since we are planning to move out of the Hoi An shelter this year and go to Hanoi, we have a ton of work to do repairing damage done by 4 years in this building before we can hand it back to the landlord. The cats have been kicked out of their room and settled into a bedroom instead. As you can see they are pretty sad about that... Meanwhile, our Dutch volunteer, Guus, is getting busy sanding, plastering, and painting their room as the rain is keeping him inside. Room by room, the house should be ready for human inhabitants by Spring. #DIY#animalrescue#animalshelter#farmsanctuary#vietnam#hoian#animalrights

We have a few new members to add to our hooved family.
Say hello to 4 goats that arrived yesterday from Denman Island. Their owner passed away from cancer and her daughter has been desperately trying to find them a home. The RASTA Sanctuary did a few courtesy posts on their Facebook page and those posts were viewed over 10,000 times with no offers of a new home.
We really weren't ready to take on more animals but I decided to take a chance and put them in the same pen as Gracie because she's been around several other farm animals in her life. Gracie is our pot belly pig that was surrendered because she was continuously nursing the goats she was kept with. In the best case scenario animals are introduced to each other through a fence line before they are put together but unfortunately we don't currently have enough fences to accomodate that. Though I did have a back up plan of putting Gracie in our garden area if there were any aggression issues.
Well, when they were put together, Gracie was SUPER excited and proceeded to chase them around the pen. I'm fairly certain she thought she was going to get some milk........but there's one big problem...they are all boys. They were not quite sure what to make of her and kept their distance all afternoon. Due to them being so uncomfortable around her I quickly put up a temporary shelter in order to protect them from the heavy rainfalls we were expecting. I checked on them throughout the night but they refused to use either shelter and simply stood in the rain.
So today we received several inches of rain and I was quite worried about them all day. I came home during my lunch break to find them still standing in the rain. I then decided to build them another shelter, that was in a different location, once I was finished work for the day. I was so relieved and delighted when I got home this afternoon to find them using both shelters. I guess standing in torrential rain encouraged them to get over their fear of Gracie.

In this episode, we bring you a couple of yogi vegan gals chatting it up in NYC. Our dear friend Val and I met up last week in the Big Apple and recorded this podcast on the skillful navigation of holidays, family and change. From sharing Thanksgiving recipes to shedding light on the violence of this time of year, to tips on how to move from love and the practice of creating more consciousness around our choices, we cover a range of topics in this short but power-packed special holiday edition show.
You may remember Val from YTP #3 on which she shared her plant-based journey and the transition of her family to a healthier way of eating. Since recording that show some things have changed, Val has encountered challenges with her kids pushing back on vegan eating while also welcoming the turnaround of her husband Sean who dropped animals products from his diet after watching Forks Over Knives. She shares her commitment to moving forward and how she feels grateful even when what she has to do for her children is not what she would choose.
My heart grew today as I had the pleasure to sponsor and name one of the @therileyfarmrescue rescued turkeys today. 💜❤️💚💙 Though I’ve never been to an auction, I hope to see more and more people choose to be kind and let these beautiful birds live. Turkeys are the most slaughtered of the meat industry, all so we can make them a decorative piece in the middle of our tables during thanksgiving. With so many alternatives, I hope to see a future with more thought going into what we are consuming when we eat. I urge everyone to educate yourselves in how these animals are very intelligent and seek companionship just like human beings. Even if you haven’t adopted a plant based diet, small changes will lead us in the right direction. If anyone’s interested in sponsoring a turkey, like I did for Spaulding here, or even interested in educating yourself, please give @therileyfarmrescue a follow and go to their website. You can become a patron or even make a donation to help feed and care for the animals living there. It will make a world of difference to these animals who’re finally experiencing love and kindness for the first time. 🦃🐖🐑🐄🐓 #turkey#savetheturkies#plantbased#farmsanctuary#therileyfarmrescue#prettybird#compassion#creultyfree#crueltyfreethanksgiving#govegan#vegan#savetheplanet#savetheanimals#farmanimals#farmanimalrescue
How handsome is Matty?! 🐑❤️
He and the rest of our rescued farm animal residents are available to be sponsored on a monthly or yearly basis. Help us cover the cost of Matty’s care and ensure he’ll live in peace and comfort this holiday season.
Sponsorships make great gifts! We send exclusive photos, a certificate, and monthly updates. Yearly sponsors have their name put on a plaque and hung in our barn! Give the gift of compassion, one size fits all. 🎁

I had the wonderful opportunity of visiting @farmsanctuary during my time here in LA, and I can honestly say it was one of my favorite experiences of my trip. It was so heart warming and eye-opening to be able to see and spend time with all of the rescued turkeys 🦃 , pigs 🐷 , chickens 🐓, cows 🐮, and sheep 🐑 at the Sanctuary! This cutie’s name is Jumper, and she’s been living at Farm Sanctuary ever since she was a piglet and jumped out of her crate at a stockyard. While I use my platform to create easy vegan recipes, I do consider myself to be an ethical vegan and care deeply for the animals as well 🐾 I know the holidays can be hard for vegans sometimes, but when I think of Jumper and all of her family and friends, abstaining from animal products is a no-brainer for me. I think if everyone had the opportunity to meet these sweet and sentient beings they mindlessly put on their plates, they might just feel the same way too 💕 I just posted a new YouTube video talking about my experience at Farm Sanctuary + some tips for the holidays, you can tap the link in my bio or go to to watch! Also, my blog has plenty of holiday vegan recipes for ya too...just sayin 😘 (📷: @consciouschris)
