What unique things does your culture celebrate? In this photo, fake paper money is burned as part of a traditional Hokkien Chinese ritual (拜天公, literally "heaven worship") to bring in wealth and prosperity.
Aroma therapy @ Alinea in Chicago, IL. First thing that hits you when you get seated here is the aroma of oranges. The center piece at the table is a bouquet of oranges and tangerines. First couple courses: snow with steelhead trout roe, shiso flowers, Asian pear compressed in yuzu, sansho leaves. Romaine spear, avocado purée, tosaka seaweed, coriander blossoms. Tasted like a fresh citrus guacamole. After the first couple starters they poured a citrus tea into the orange centerpiece which was hiding dry ice. Now the citrus smell is recharged and the table is flowing with fog as the next couple courses are placed down. Spanner crab poached in guyere and coconut curry, pumpkin seeds clusters, dehydrated cabbage leaf. Then there was glowing spiced orange juice encased inside a coco butter shell. I was definitely enveloped in the bright aroma which I could feel was affecting my mood. #aroma#finedining#cuisine # #michelin#michelinstar#citrus#orange#roe#shiso#asianpear#romaine#avocado#tosaka#spanner#crab#coconut#curry#cabbage#spiced#orange#glow#light
~A Small Piece of Heaven~
A friend of mine inspired this artwork. A few weeks ago during youth group, we were talking about God and positive things that we wanted to share because it was one of those chill nights. We eventually got around to the topic of heaven, and this friend of mine described heaven like this:
“I imagine it’d be different from what everyone else might think; there’d be puffy clouds, the skies would be filled with galaxies, and the souls of God’s daughters and sons would be like little glowy and sparkling orbs flying through the stars.”
This “idea” was stuck in my head for a while and I didn’t physically get it down on a canvas until two days ago. I felt like God pushed me to create this, with the help of this girl in my small group. (For those who don’t know, I am a Christian. I may not be the strongest or most active believer out there, but I have accepted God as my lord and savior and will walk my life down his road for as long as I live.)
