Seeing new cities and visiting new places with my favorite people is pretty much my favorite thing.🇨🇭🌲👪❤️ #sponsored ⠀
As we walked the streets of Bern, Switzerland I kept thinking how lucky I am to see the placed I've read about in history books, and how lucky I am to have a husband who made strategizing how to afford travel one of his hobbies! ⠀
We're sharing one of our big secrets of how we afford travel on the blog today, and it's the one that changed things from being able to go once every couple years to being able to go once a year! You don't want to miss it! ⠀
How can you live in Arizona and not make trips to Mexico a regular thing? Oh, how we love seeing the beach, brushing up on our Spanish, and enjoying amazing food and people! ⠀

One of our favorite dates we do each year is head to the bookstore and peruse a bunch of travel books on destinations we're interested in visiting, and we start planning our dream trips together.⠀

Some of our dearest friends are visiting Cinque Terre right now, and we are reliving our trip last year through their social media posts, which of course led to opening up the memory card and looking through all those pictures we still need to blog and share (yikes!). ___
One of our favorite memories was staying in Riomaggorie and finding an amazing @Airbnb where we got to live like a local in one of the brightly colored homes. See the tall skinny dark pink building with green shutters in the top left, that piece of iconic photography was ours for a few nights. And now we've made the travel bug bite us hard and wish we were on a plane meeting our friends and enjoying our ocean view all over again!

I'm starting to get through the Spain pictures and I can't get over how many amazing things there are to see in one country! It's so underrated! This inspired me to write a post about the 5 reasons Spain should be on your travel bucket list- but I got carried away and came up with 12 without blinking 😬. #linkinprofile#whitingsfangirlespana

The final palace, final European pastries, final day of being cold and wet (which we're enjoying and ignoring those impending triple digits back home), final hours of seeing amazing ancient pieces of history everywhere we look, and final day with my boys 24/7. I guess life can't always be a vacation, which means we will just have to go home and get busy planning the next great #fridaywereinlovetravels! #whitingsfangirlespana#whitingsusetheirpassports

One of the best parts of Spain is that pretty much everywhere you look you run into ancient Roman ruins, a palace, or a cathedral. Every town has some amazing piece of history! Our final day with a day trip to smaller cities had kept us in just as much awe as the largest cities! This whole country is such a stunner! 💃🏻 #whitingsfangirlespana#whitingsusetheirpassports#fridaywereinlovetravels
Flamenco dancing and bullfighting in Seville- what a day! We couldn't take pics of the amazing 💃🏻 show, but let's talk 🐮🕴!
Even though it's a controversial thing, learning the history of bullfighting (originally military training) in the oldest and most influential stadium that's still functioning was one pretty awe-inspiring experience!
3️⃣ fun facts our tour guide taught us:
1. Bullfighters are like celebrities- it takes a lot of time and unpaid experience to get to the top, but once you get there you can expect teen girls to plaster your picture all over their bedroom and be a heartthrob in the country.
2. Professionals make over $100k per fight!
3. They get paid before the fight just in case (smart) and pay their crew and family before each event 😬
This kid was made for big cities! He loves facing out in his @lillebaby and people watching all day long! He giggles when we set him on benches or when we get on the metro. He looks up at the amazing ceilings in every cathedral and palace in awe. Don't even get me started on his giddy sequels when any pigeon shows up 🐦. Oh Mack, we gave you your first taste of #wanderlust and I fear you're going to be like your parents and never be content to be a home body ever again! #whitingsfangirlespana#fridaywereinlovetravels#whitingsusetheirpassports
Fragole 🍓 and limone 🍋 = the perfect way to say goodbye. Believe it or not I took very few pics on my phone this incredible trip and can't wait to share some more once I crack open my DSLR that I've had permanently around my neck the past 10 days. Arrivederci Italia 🇮🇹- you've truly been an expensive experience that has made our lives richer! #whitingstakeitaly#whitingsusetheirpassports#fridaywereinlovetravels
As we reach our final city on the great #whitingstakeitaly trip, I can't help but reflect on my favorite view. We've visited 9 cities and hauled luggage 7 times through crazy busy train stations full of crowds and pickpockets, and many while pouring rain. I've watched this guy pick up all my stuff in addition to all his stuff and haul it up and down so many stairs so his pregnant wife was taken care of and never overwhelmed or overdoing it. His legs and arms are sore but he hasn't complained once! I'm not sure what I did in life to get Jacob Whiting, but you can rest assured not a day goes by that I don't include a thanks to God in my prayers for the amazing gift of a selfless husband he gave me! #fridaywereinlovetravels#mushyheartpost#whitingsusetheirpassports
Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" plus experiencing a new found understanding of Michelangelo, Raphael, Leonardo, and Donatello lead to deep art appreciation and deep understanding why Splinter chose these names for baby turtles. #arthistory#whitingstakeitaly#fridaywereinlovetravels
The Roman Forum was unbelievable! I walked where Caesar walked, saw the temple he was stabbed in, and experienced Ancient Rome with so much history. For this former English teacher who taught Julius Caesar this was one amazing day! #whitingstakeitaly#whitingsusetheirpassports#babymoon
10,000 people and 11,000 beasts lost their lives all in the name of killing for sport for public entertainment. Why is it the most terrible pieces of history are also the most interesting? I loved learning a lot about The Colosseum today and I think it's time to go watch Gladiator! #wheninrome#whitingstakeitaly#whitingsusetheirpassports#colosseum #🇮🇹
Fun fact: I went to a large high school full of electives and was lucky enough to take mythology and learn the ins and outs of Roman myths and gods. I can't describe the awe of seeing the Pantheon in real life! I will be writing Mrs. Krampton a thank you letter when I get home! #wheninrome#whitingstakeitaly#pantheon
I read in a travel book once that whenever you leave a country you should take away a few things you learned & incorporate into your life. The people of Peru were my favorite. Here's a few things I learned from them: 1. Be more humble & grateful for what you do have 2. Always be kind & hospitable, particularly with those traveling and not in their comfort zone 3. Enjoy food- cook more healthy, local food & invite friends over to eat it more often 4. Love your county even with its flaws 5. Hard work = happiness 6. Life is short, wear bright colors 7. Treasure God & family above all else. I will never forget this beautiful country & its amazing people! 👪🗿🌿
There's so many things I love about that Jacob Whiting, and maybe it's just the packing wrap up and thoughts of European chocolate speaking, but I think the night we talked about how we'd rather drive old beat up cars and grocery budget like maniacs to afford traveling the world, may be one of the things I love most about that man!
Spain, we are coming for you! #WhitingsFanGirlEspana#whitingsusetheirpassports#fridaywereinlovetravels
One of my favorite parts of traveling is how much I get to learn about a country's history while I'm there. I had to look up where Spain stood during WWII (neutral), how their government works (it's complicated until 1981), if they were part of the Roman Empire (they were), and so much more!
I am loving that there are so many eras of Spain with different religions, art, architecture, etc. and so much of it still stands today! Pretty much everywhere you go and everywhere you look there's something amazing with a lot of history behind it!
This beauty popped up while walking to our next destination and I learned it was finished in 1888 for the Barcelona World Fair. I wonder if the residents even know how amazingly cool it is to live in this country. The world is such an amazing place! #whitingsusetheirpassports#fridaywereinlovetravels#whitingsfangirlespana
