The reason we can stand waiting at traffic lights is that we know they will change soon. So even if things are hard, be patient. Things will change soon. For the better.

I used to think, quite proudly, that I was an empath. I've always been hyper-sensitive to the feelings and energies of others and I actually thought that was a good thing. "I'm so spiritual," and "I have mystical powers" and "I'm like...a goddess, if you really think about it." (Rationalizes one's own unhealthy behavior much?) Maybe being an empath could be good in some contexts, but as I've been diving deeper into my "why," "how" and "wtf" these last few months, I've started to realize how dysfunctionally that character trait actually played out in my life. In fact, it was just a gnarly form of codependency, really. Come to discover that I have lived my entire life feeling everyone else's feelings, and taking responsibility for resolving everyone's heartbreak and carrying the whole world on my shoulders, basically. And that shit has been heavy. As the child of an addict, being a helper was what I was praised for. Fixing peoples problems was all I longed for. Being the recipient of others anxiety, stress, disappointment - that was how I was taught to contribute. Suffice it to say, i have work to do but at least I have the tools to do that, now. Has anyone read any good books on codependency? Anyone have any wisdom on the subject? Please share in the comments:

I am having an amazing time here in San Diego with my wonderful wife, @katiemartin_fitmom, for our church’s couples retreat.
This video has a quote that I took from one of our speakers this afternoon. I thought it was great for my wife and me and a few of you that have messaged me throughout the year.
Treating our significant other respectfully and not highlighting their faults is crucial. Relationships are hard so taking time to learn how to better communicate and love your spouse is important.
I wish you all nothing but the best.
Thank you @tombilyeu & @impacttheory for the awesome Power Couple shirts.
If you guys still have not checked out Tom’s account or business you NEED to. He has transformed my world.
