A super blue blood moon wowed stargazers on Wednesday night. A total lunar eclipse turned the moon a brooding, dark red as the event coincided with a super moon and a blue moon. This shot was taken by @hangingpixels_photo_art in #portfairy, if you look close enough you can even see the shearwater returning home to their nests. #iamportfairy#iamthegreatoceanroad

The lifeguards at #portfairy beach have a pretty awesome office, that is for sure! This spot is epic for those wanting to practise catching long whitewater waves over the broad, low gradient sandbar, normally free from rips.
With crystal clear waters 💦 and ideal swimming 🏊 conditions, made even better without any wind, 💨 conditions are ideal for stand up paddlers! 📸: @breehiggins64

The Port Fairy lifeboat house will be open today from 12-3pm, built in Williamstown in 1857, it is the oldest surviving self-righting, self-draining lifeboat in the world. The Port Fairy vessel is housed in its original lifeboat house, and is regularly taken to sea by a volunteer crew. The boat has been carefully restored to represent the vessel in 1888 (based on a photograph at that time, and in the paint colours of the period. The lifeboat house was built in 1861 (in the bay, out from East Beach), before relocation on the Moyne in 1872, when it was fitted with a slipway. Close by is an intact Rocket House, which contains an extraordinary collection of 19 and early 20th century maritime rescue equipment. The boat, buildings and rescue collection are listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. #iamportfairy#iamthegreatoceanroad#porfairy#wandervictoria#visitvictoria#visitmelbourne

The 22km Mahogany Ship beach walk from Port Fairy to Warrnambool passes the last known resting place of the elusive Mahogany Ship, thought to be a Portuguese caravel that was wrecked in the early 1500s. It later vanished under drifting sands in the 1890s.
The area is also home to echidnas, rare hooded plovers, mutton birds and crested terns. For shorter walks, enter the region at one of several access points along the way
